Sunday 9th and Monday 10th took me to Heythrop Park in Oxfordshire to attend the Promobile conference 2014. The Pro Mobile Conference was a unique opportunity for me to focus on my passion: DJing and Hosting weddings. Combining information packed keynote seminars, enlightening panel discussions and interactive group sessions, the Conference inspired. Much more than that, it provided an environment for new ideas to form, plans to be honed and new contacts to be made through focused networking.
The lead keynote speaker was Randy Bartlett:
One of the USA’s most recognised and sought-after speakers for the Wedding DJprofession, Randy Bartlett has presented his funny and educational seminars and workshops to standing room only crowds at conferences and DJ gatherings across the country. He’s the producer of the acclaimed 1% Solution series of seminars and DVDs, and is a member of the Wedding Entertainment Directors Guild™ and the ADJA. Since 1988, Randy has been the owner of Premier Entertainment in Sacramento, California. A full time entertainer, specialising in weddings, his referral based business has his clients paying him substantially above the rate of average DJs in his market. Prior to his career as a mobile DJ, he spent 15 years in sales, with 10 years in sales management and sales training. It was Randy's first time in the UK at the 2014 Pro Mobile Conference presenting the keynote seminar. It was a huge honour to have dinner with Randy and his wife Denise on Monday evening, the night before I stepped into the class room to partake and be critiqued in his workshop, The 1% solution.
Another Keynote speaker was Rob Brown:
Rob Brown is a world leading authority on business networking and high level connecting. He is the best selling author of ‘How to Build Your Reputation: The Secrets of Becoming the Go to Professional in a Crowded Marketplace’. Rob speaks all over the world on networking and referrals and, according to LinkedIn, he's the most recommended networking expert on the planet!
The special guest speaker this year was Mark Goodier:
Mark Goodier is one of the UK’s best known and most respected broadcasters and presenters. For over 30 years he has presented on national radio for the BBC and UK commercial radio. Mark was a regular presenter of Top of the Pops as well as the legendary Radio 1 Roadshow. Alongside Mark’s presentation career he has been one of the most in-demand voice over artists of the last 20 years, most notably as the voice of the world famous Now That’s What I Call Music series of albums.
The first day of the Conference came to an end with a three course networking dinner in the hotel Ballroom. This was the chance to enjoy a social evening in the company of like-minded colleagues as well as the Conference speakers. The second annual Pro Mobile Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by DJguard, was presented during the Gala Dinner.
After dinner radio legend Mark Goodier hosted a unique music quiz called 'The Chart - the only music quiz that counts!' This was a fully-interactive pop quiz which included a touch-pad technology for multiple choice game-play, The Chart gave everyone a chance to get involved. Featuring 10 rounds of music trivia including General Knowledge, Beat The Intro, In Reverse & At The Movies. Throughout the game Mark counted down The Chart to reveal who is number one… sadly it wasn't me :-(
A fabulous weekend of networking with like minded peers and learning new tricks to enhance my performance. I'm already looking forward to 2015's conference and putting my new skills into practice.
